Dana and Elizabeth tackle a topic no one wants to talk about as they are joined in the downtown studio by Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) President and CEO Meagan Fulmer and PADV board member and Kaiser Permanente HR Exec Linda Boatright.

The conversation focused on the recent 2012 Domestic Violence in the Workplace Conference held in Atlanta and the effects that domestic violence has, not only on the emotional well being of employees, but also on the bottom line for companies.  Meagan and Linda shared some staggering statistics and discussed what is being done to both raise awareness and to try to eradicate the problem.  Here are some of the statistics that were discussed:

  • Domestic violence in the workplace results in 8 million missed workdays each year
  • Female victims have 20% higher healthcare premiums for 5 yrs following an incident
  • In Georgia, 74% of domestic violence victims murdered in 2010 worked full-time outside the home
  • 1 in every 4 women in the U.S. are affected by domestic violence during their lifetime
